Restaurant POS systems were built for tables and servers. A food truck POS needs to be fast, loud-proof, and ready for a 300-person festival line.
Why restaurant POS systems fail at the truck window
Speed is everything at the window
You have 30 seconds per customer at peak lunch rush. A POS that requires three taps to add an item, two more to apply a modifier, and a PIN to process payment is losing you money in line. TrooNow's POS is built for speed — tap an item, it's in the cart. Barcode scan, it's in the cart. Customer taps to pay on their phone. Done.
Cash, card, and check all count
A food truck takes whatever the customer has. TrooNow logs every payment type — cash, card via Stripe Terminal, card via Square reader, or check — and every sale hits your revenue report. End-of-day reconciliation shows exactly where every dollar came from.
The kitchen needs to see what's coming
Every order — online, POS, or QR scan — goes to the kitchen display automatically. Your team sees the queue without anyone shouting across the truck. Festival mode adds 3-digit pickup codes and a big-screen display so customers know when their food is ready.
Staff shouldn't see your Stripe account
Create staff members with a 4–6 digit PIN and assign a role: Owner, Manager, Server, or Kitchen. Servers take orders and process sales. Kitchen staff see only the queue. Nobody but you sees your revenue, Stripe settings, or customer list.

Common questions
Any tablet works — iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, or a basic Amazon Fire tablet. The app runs in any modern browser, so there's nothing to install. Most operators use an iPad they already own. A $99 Amazon Fire tablet works fine for kitchen display.
Two options. Option A: customer scans a QR code on your screen and pays on their phone via Stripe (2.9% + $0.30). Option B: pair a Stripe Terminal reader (~$59 BBPOS Chipper or ~$349 Stripe S700) for tap/insert at 2.7% + $0.05. If you use Square, your existing Square reader works for in-person sales.
TrooNow requires an internet connection. Most food truck locations have adequate cell signal for mobile hotspot. A cheap backup hotspot from a carrier covers you in dead zones.
Yes — and TrooNow has a dedicated Festival Mode for high-volume events. Customers scan a QR on your truck, order from their phone, and get a 3-digit pickup code. Your kitchen display shows the queue. A separate big-screen display shows ready codes so customers come to the window at the right time.
Yes. Each staff member has a 4–6 digit PIN. They tap their PIN to log in, take orders and process sales, and their activity is attributed to them. Owner and Manager roles have access to reports and settings. Server and Kitchen roles are scoped to their workflow only.
